[Jasper gripped a pink-striped dice in his paw, rattled it around briefly, and let it fly to the table. After looking at the list of options, he looked pleasantly surprised at his number 5.]
After the rumbling of the castle had ceased, Jasper noticed that he was no longer as tired! He quickly glided down to the ground using his excitement-rested wings, and looked around for the rest of the party.
They were standing in front of the now-revealed entrance to the castle! The lever had worked! Actually -- it seemed that several hidden levers and switches had revealed entrances to the castle. But this one? He had found it all on his own! He was definitely proving his worth -- and right to his share of the treasure!
------
The inside of the castle was dusty and dark; evidently the beast didn't use the hallways ("Tunnels?" thought Jasper to himself) to its advantage. Did that mean the beast had chased away previous inhabitants and then didn't even bother to use all the open space?
He was shaken from his thoughts when the group leader pointed out there were too many hallways to justify staying in one large group. They'd have to split up and find their way to the beast alone, or in small groups! Jasper quickly volunteered to go by himself. He wasn't the best at seeing in the dark, but he was eager to have some space to think and calculate what he'd do with his share of the treasure once they finally completed their quest.
He picked a hallway seemingly at random (though he would later insist it was because it was slightly less dark than the others), and grabbed a still-burning torch off the wall to light his way. The hallway was long and winding, and he thought he even backtracked at points -- but everything looked similar anyways, so he wasn't sure. Until...! There! He saw something up ahead through the gloom!
Excitement turned to confusion when his torch light first hit the walls. There were a lot of strange runes, words, and pictures surrounding a simple wooden door. He immediately looked for a handle but couldn't find one, and pushing on the door yielded a similar failure. Was there a way through?
Perhaps the way to get in the door was written around it...
He briefly studied the markings, but his paw keep inching towards the pouch slung on his back. He just couldn't focus on all these confusing symbols and words...
His paw touched the bone ocarina still tucked safely away, and inspiration struck!
[Jasper would like to roll Nose for Perception -- he would like to play his ocarina and see if anything happens to the markings on the wall!]
At first, Jasper can't make heads or tails of the strange markings...
Jasper rolls a 20 + 3, for a total of 23, succeeding!
But as soon as he begins to play the ocarina, some of the markings on the wall start to glow, Jasper noticed right away that the markings were leading his eyes in a certain direction, following the markings, Jasper finds a loose stone near the floor.
Jasper is able to pry the stone from the wall, revealing a small alcove with a hidden key inside!
